Итак, по дурости вследствие живости ума решил обновить систему с 11.4 на 12.2. Обновление проводил с полного DVD с офсайта. В ходе обновления ошибок не возникло. После загрузки системы вместо привычной среды Gnome увидел какую-то НЁХ страшного вида. Оправившись от шока, решил, что это и есть пресловутый Gnome 3, завершил сеанс и продолжил работу в KDE. Установил несвободный драйвер для карточки (GeForce 8400 GS) [1], стал думать, как жить дальше. Не то чтобы я был против KDE, просто с Gnome как-то свыкся. Порывшись в памяти, в ней всплыло слово Cinnamon. Установил его [2]. Вышел из сеанса KDE, вошёл в Cinnamon и получил угольно-чёрный экран, единственным украшением которого был указатель мыши, который двигался, но не более того (щелчки правой и левой кнопками никакого эффекта не имели). Alt+F2, Alt+F1 ничего не давали. Нажатие кнопки питания отправляло систему в сон (и какой дебил додумался до этого?), поэтому пришлось использовать холодный перезапуск. В KDE загрузка прошла без проблем, как и прежде, я запустил Yast2, удалил всё, что содержало cinnamon в названии. Попробовал снова войти в Gnome — но теперь и тут та же картина: чёрный экран, указатель мыши и всё.
Теперь я в растерянности. В KDE жить можно, но хотелось бы разобраться, в чём проблема. Куда копать, может ли кто-нибудь ткнуть носом в какую-нибудь полезную ссылку? И ещё, можно ли как-нибудь вернуть Gnome 2? Соответствующий портал на сайте, вроде, ничего не предлагает [3].
Нужно было просто обновиться до последних обновлений.
После войти в Yast и исправить в конце каждого URL версию системы 11.4 заменить на 12.2
Далее выполнить zypper dup.
Для того чтобы все прошло гладко для графического режима можно предварительно удалить драйвера Nvidia.
А после обновления установить свежую их версию.
Почему так лучше обновляться чем с диска, да потому что на диске собраны не все пакеты которые есть в сетевых репозитариях.
И при обновлении часть пакетов может быть утеряна, так как не могут быть удовлетворены некоторые зависимости.
По поводу Gnome DE ничего сказать не могу так как устанавливал всего один раз и чисто для эксперимента перед тем как снести систему.
Для установки Gnome в один клик нужно войти в Yast и выбрать нужный шаблон так как он уже интегрирован в операционную систему.
