Решил таки попробовать поставить.
Новый раздел, chroot, ~amd64.
Из флагов добавил USE="-introspection -kde gtk gnome", ну и eselet profile set 3 (gnome).

Через --autounmask-write удовлетворил нестыковки, остальные моменты по рукокниге.

Все хорошо собралось, gdm запустился, только вот гнома я не увидел, при входе чистый рабочий стол и указатель мыши работающий, Alt+F2 ноль эмоций, панелей нет - ничего нет, только Ctrl+F1...F7 и Ctrl+Alt+Bkspace и Gdm нормально рабочий (выключить, перезагрузить...).

Сейчас поставил на всякий случай:

я бы для начала попробовал запустить от нового пользователя... если поможет - удалить ~/.config/gtk*. Если нет - пересобрать gtk:3 :2 и панель гнома...

Это новый пользователь и первый запуск иксов от него, сборка была с нуля ошибок не было, сейчас gnome, system, world полностью пересобирается.

Не знаю куда копать, если в xorg.conf оставить один монитор, всё нормально, Twinview включается, но в Twinview я так и не нашёл способа чтобы видео-проигрыватели запускались на одном мониторе, а не растягивались на оба в фулл-скрин, это касается не только гнома, в кедах и крысе также, раньше разговаривали на эту тему.
В кедах у меня нормально работает Separate X, в этом гноме этот режим никак, в 2.32 все ok/

это скорей всего баг панели... на других дистрах такого не наблюдал?
если нет, то можно посмотреть, какие там патчи при сборке используют... если и там тоже, то писать баг репорт + ждать.
теоритические корни проблемы: траблы с созданием панели на втором экране

ещё можно попробовать поиграться с версией gtk...

по поводу растягивания окна. ЕМНИП там усердная xinerama грузилась не смотря ни на что.
(не помню, советовал ли): попробовать выпилить(убрать юс и переаобрать) или отключить её(disable xinerama в секции modules xorg.conf'а) xinerama. [в орфографии и именах могу ошибаться, ибо пишу по памяти, сверяться с маном].

Xinerama выключена, хотя пробовал по всякому.
Еще раз: на Kde, Xfce, Gnome 2 - в режиме Twinview - любой плеер развернутый в full-screen разворачивается на оба монитора, панели тоже.
Это только на Gentoo - на других дистрибутивах такого никогда не было nvidia-settings работает одинаково везде, значит xorg.conf не при чём.
Нормально, как и в других дистрибутивах Twinview у меня работает только в Openbox, при этом xorg.conf я не трогаю, просто коробку загружаю и всё.

а вот про коробку я не помню... можно логи старта иксов с коробкой и с чем-либо ещё?

Почитал забугорные форумы советуют пересобрать с USE="xinerama", пошел пробовать.

Fat-Zer, это всё ты меня смутил, убирай xinarama, убирай. smile Убирать может и надо, но только в xorg.conf ставить в 0.
В итоге всё отлично в make.conf добавил use флаг xinerama, и пересобрал --newuse.
Результат:

Separate X в третьегноме так и не завёлся.
Ну юзабилити у него никакое, остаюсь на кедах.
Сейчас основную систему. с xinerama пересоберу.
