Непонятка с драйвером видео

Установлен Debian 6.0.0 - 2.6.32-5-amd64
GeForce 8600GT

В каталоге /etc/X11 отсутствует xorg.conf , но разрешение установлено 1024 х 768 - 60 Гц, хотела установить 85 Гц, НО КУДА ЕГО ПРОПИСАТЬ?
Как проверить работу драйвера?

#glxgears -printfps
или
#glxgears -info

При попытке проверить так, выдает это

Также пробовала поставить свой xorg.conf (сгенерировала через X -configure) но никакие изменения это не принесло, т.е. прописываю параметры в секции monitor - HorizSync и VertRefresh с параметрами и все также не меняется, частота 60гц - УЖЕ СЛЕЗЫ ИДУТ ТАК РЕЖЕТ ГЛАЗА
При попытке установить драйвер с офф сайта по методу 2, выдает что то - лучше Nouveau display driver и он установлен
Но где мне можно изменить эти параметры монитора и как проверить работу драйвера?

Пакеты перечисленные там , не найдены в репозитариях

По этому примеру сделала, но частота появилась стала 50Гц, хотя разрешения появились разные. Драйвер установился, 3Д заработало. Но что с частотой делать? После выполнения nvidia-xconfig, сщздался xorg но параметры HorizSync и VertRefresh были не те что в инструкции к монитору, я их исправила. Может это повлияло на неправильную частоту?

С nvidia никогда дела не имел, а есло по-старому утановить ModeLine
в xorg.conf? man xorg.conf, man gtf.

Не меняется ничего. Мне кажется что оно откуда то с другого места берет параметры :(

NVIDIA X Server Settings. Там есть нужные настройки и в xorg.config совсем не обязательно руками править.
